Pharmacy Bags

Pharmacy bags fall into two general categories: Clear General Purpose Bags and Specialty Pharmacy Bags. Clear General Purpose Bags are seal top bags and are typically used by pharmacies in economical 2 mil or rugged 4 mil thicknesses. These seal top bags are available plain or with a white write-on block that aids in identifying the bag contents.

Specialty Pharmacy Bags are designed for a particular purpose, in sizes suited for that application and with closures, printing and colors in keeping with standard practice for that purpose. This means that Elkay bags can be adopted with no fear of disrupting standard and established practices in the pharmacy.

Who do you call on to determine poly bag sales opportunities in the pharmacy?

Smaller independent pharmacies can be approached directly, whereas large chain pharmacies often have centralized purchasing through corporate headquarters. The approach to hospital pharmacy departments should be made through the purchasing or materials department with a request to learn what poly bags are being used by the department and which of those bags are supplied via a Group Purchasing Organization (GPO). If this information can be determined then concentrate your sales effort on those Elkay items that are not on GPO contracts.

  1. What poly/plastic bags are you currently using in your department?
  2. Which poly bag fills the most common need in your department?
  3. Do you have any poly bags on GPO contracts? Which ones?
  4. Are there any poly bags used that need upgrades or added features?
  5. What company is your main poly bag supplier?
  6. We provide a wide array of poly bags for pharmacies. Can you supply me with a list of bags you currently use, so we can determine if my Elkay product line will bring you some added function, convenience or cost advantages?
